Grunt is a nomadic musical horde that, taking a break from the chaotic present, roams through space and time. This activity can lead to completely unpredictable situations. In one moment, it may be basking in the golden rays of a star in a galaxy far, far away, and in the next, covering its ears from the deafening roar of a Minosaur. It merges echoes of ancient pasts and distant futures in the present, as it always returns to its beloved home, to Earth, to this colorful Babylonian mixture, where it blows the dust of forgetfulness off mysterious native gems.
On its expeditions, it explores what resonates with music, this meaningless mechanical noise, which when arranged into harmony, miraculously finds its way into our hearts, enchanting and uniting us. It finds answers in the languages of both near and distant times, giving them an original touch through its own experience, and realises that all speak about the same: it is love that moves the sun and the other stars.
Grunt turns out to be a moreish, understated Slovenian folk rock collective whose chill frontwoman remains deadpan while expertly sliding up and down the scales, issuing melismatic Macedonian laments in the minor key offset by rolling grooves; like Fleetwood Mac at a Kurdish wedding party.
The Quietus, United Kingdom
From the Black Sea’s depths of Greek Pontic longing to the rosy Sephardic tapestry, through devotion of Bosnian sevdah to the fiery Kurdish wedding, from Turkish homesickness to the golden rays of Macedonia, sailing the Panonian sea into its own contemplation.
With Grunt, the Slovenian music scene finally joins the European wave of bands that connect the legacy of the West with the East – in this case, the Balkans, Turkey, and beyond.

Grunt is mainly focused on the meeting point of primal ethno with rock and other modern styles, without overlooking the richness of classical music and free, improvised expression.
