Pink prompts, which are hard to miss, in front of the Exportdrvo helped to announce the eighth edition of Porto Etno, the world music and gastronomy festival, which will take place on the 28 and 29 June in Exportdrvo.When the conference ended, it was clear: the revamped visual and verbal identity of the Festival announced the exchange of good vibrations and the weekend to enjoy different world cultures.
Edvin Liverić, the head of the Croatian Culture Centre Sušak, and Jelena Tondini, programme coordinator and the organiser of the Porto Etno Festival presented details of the rich programme. The eighth edition of the Festival offers a mix of music genres, ethnic music and traditional dances, complemented by the diverse offer of gastronomy delicacies from all over the world.
New Festival’s edition presents Neno Belan, Kiril Džajkovski and this year’s Greek Eurovision contestant Marina Satti
Zoran Majstorović, the conductor of the Porto Etno Orchestra, also participated in the conference. He took the opportunity to reveal that Neno Belan will also perform at the Porto Etno Festival, marking strong local support for this edition’s programme. Neno Belan joins the rest of the solo performers who will be accompanied by the Orchestra, namely Barbara Munjas, Alba Nacinovich, and Boris Štok, who was also present at the conference.
This is the Festival’s most powerful edition so far: Porto Etno brings favourite Macedonian musician Kiril Džajkovski and this year’s Greek Eurosong representative Marina Satti to the audience in Rijeka. Detailed programme and entire list of performers can be found on the Festival’s website.
In addition to numerous novelties, this year’s edition can boast with its’ first-ever opening ceremony. To mark the fifteenth anniversary of the inclusion of the Istrian scale on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list, cultural and artistic associations and folklore ensembles from Primorje-Gorski Kotar County will parade in Rijeka’s centre. The parade will begin at 6 pm from Jadranski Square. Spinčići Musical Society will march at the head of the parade, performing its convenient repertoire, while folklore ensembles will present their heritage at several points along the route. The final stop of the parade will be Exportdrvo, where associations and ensembles will assemble, and Sempre Allegro Choir will perform.
Gastronomic offer presents specialities prepared by numerous cooks from different countries
While world music and ethnic dimension mark the musical part of the Festival, the gastronomic offer will traditionally include receipts from different countries, including Croatia.
Over a hundred of performers and cooks participate in the programme every year, while around 2,000 visitors enjoy the programmes.The Festival will offer a wide range of traditional dishes, available in the Porto Etno cookbook.
